Airline Travel UCSB is within sight of the Santa Barbara Airport, and takes about 3 minutes by cab. Driving North on US 101 passes through the City of Santa Barbara and just east of UC Santa Barbara. To reach the campus, take the UC Santa Barbara/Highway 217. Follow 217 (Ward Memorial Blvd.) to the East Gate of the University. If you need a parking pass purchase it from the ticket gate, and ask for a map or directions from the teller. Proceed straight through the gate, and merge right onto Mesa Road. Three lighted intersections later, turn left onto Ocean Road. Bear right to at the stop sign to stay on Ocean Road, then take your first left at the El Colegio intersection. The road terminates in three parking lots. Turn into the right parking lot, and the HSSB Humanities and Social Sciences Building (the site of the March 8-10 2002 Conference) is immediately on your left. All sessions will be held in room 6020 of HSSB. Driving South on US 101, exit at Storke Road/UCSB exit and drive south (toward the ocean) to a "T" junction with El Colegio Road. Turn left onto El Colegio Road and you will pass through the West Gate of the University. If you need a parking pass purchase it from the ticket gate, and ask for a map or directions from the teller. Continue on El Colegio Road through the intersection with Ocean. The road terminates in three parking lots. Turn into the right parking lot, and the HSSB Humanities and Social Sciences Building (the site of the March 8-10 2002 Conference) is immediately on your left. All sessions will be held in room 6020 of HSSB. Parking Alert. Everything that happens in Southern California ends up being about parking. As the doctors say, there's good news and bad news. The bad news is that the parking charge for Friday will be $5.00 per car. You can pay at the East or West Gate entrances to the campus, and parking personnel will direct you to the parking nearest to HSSB. The good news: parking is free on Saturday and Sunday. To find the Interdisciplinary Humanities Center (IHC) in the Humanities and Social Sciences Building (HSSB), locate the bus loop in the middle of the map and walk southwest (down and to the left on this map) through the parking lots until you encounter the triangular complex labeled HSSB just south of the Events Center. All the sessions of the conference will be held in 6020 HSSB, the McCune conference room. To find South Hall, home of the Department of English of UC Santa Barbara, locate the bus loop in the middle of the map and walk south (down on this map) between the old gym and Kerr Hall to the corner of South Hall. The Department of English is on the 2nd floor (2607 South Hall). The Transcriptions Studio is at 2509 South Hall. For more detailed directions, including maps, as well as airline, bus, and train connections, please consult the UC Santa Barbara Visitor Center. The UC Santa Barbara English Department recommends the following Santa Barbara hotels.
