Media Determinism and Media Freedom after the Digital Mutation:
The Matrix and Napster

Questions or issues coming from this talk:

1. There is a liberation narrative coming out of Northern California: peer to peer sharing, open source software movement, and Internetworking as a kind of anti-system enabling unprecedented individual empowerment: what is cogent and what is mystified about this narrative as a map for the future?

2. How should we read, and how seriously should we take, the narratives of personal freedom produced by huge entertainment conglomerates?

3. Most broadly: what sort of digital environmental policy should we pursue so as to sustain the digital cultures we envision?
