Tilting at Windmills: The Use of Standards inthe Future of Electronic Literature

Advocating the use of standards as a solution to the challenges facing electronic literature may seem quixotic. But is it also a bad idea? This talk will briefly examine how text encoding standards might operate in the ELO community, what use they might be, and why it seems likely that they will never be adopted.
